Clinical Decision Making for level of Care & Discharge

About this live event

Few clinical judgment calls carry more weight than deciding whether a client needs a higher level of care — or is ready to step down or be discharged. Get it wrong in one direction, and a client is held longer than necessary, loses autonomy, and may lose trust in treatment. Get it wrong in the other direction, and a client can be released into a situation their stabilization can't survive. This course builds a structured, defensible approach to that decision, and pairs it with the documentation practices covered in the companion course, Write It Right.

Learning Objectives

  • 1. Identify clinical indicators that warrant escalation to a higher level of care.
  • 2. Apply a structured, multi-dimensional framework for level-of-care decisions across outpatient, intensive outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings.
  • 3. Implement genuine discharge readiness plans from premature discharge driven by symptom improvement alone, bed pressure, or authorization limits.
