Good Grief for Helping Professionals

About this live event

This online training provides an overview of current grief theory, various indicators of grief, and how to support grieving individuals across the lifespan. Led by Bo’s Place mental health professionals, this 3-hour interactive training will focus on supporting bereaved clients using grief-specific therapeutic elements through a variety of interventions. Participants will gain tools and resources to support their work with the bereaved, and interventions ready for implementation in a variety of settings.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify at least 3 indicators of grief as a full-body experience.
  • Describe at least 2 interventions to help clients foster a continuing bond with the person who died.
  • Construct a support plan for a bereaved individual or family utilizing grief-specific therapeutic elements and interventions.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for behavioral health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, and MFT's.

Live event Instructor(s)

  • Donna Olson-Salas, LCSW

    Donna coordinates bilingual family and adult support groups, coordinates school-based support groups, and manages the pregnancy loss support groups at Bo’s Place. Donna joined Bo’s Place in August of 2016. She earned a Master of Social Work Degree from The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Licensed Professional Healer of the Arts. Donna has over 40 years of experience in the social work and mental health fields.

  • Yesica Lemus, MA, LPC-S

    Yesica manages Community Education, runs a family group, and facilitates school groups at Bo's Place. She joined Bo’s Place in September of 2021. Yesica earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Houston Baptist University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and has over 14 years of experience in professional counseling and mental health.
