Lumbar Spine Pathologies

CE Hours 2

About this live event

This live, interactive course offers an in-depth exploration of lumbar spine pathologies, including their classification, hallmark clinical features, and evidence-based assessment strategies. It addresses mechanical, inflammatory, degenerative, acute, chronic, recurrent, central, and peripheral pain sources to support a clear understanding of diverse clinical presentations. A strong focus is placed on differential diagnosis and physiotherapy decision-making, including thorough red-flag screening. Core conditions such as disc herniation, facet joint dysfunction, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and sacroiliac joint disorders are examined with an emphasis on clinical relevance and practical application. The overarching aim is to strengthen clinicians’ ability to conduct accurate assessments and develop effective, patient-centred management plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate common lumbar spine pathologies, including disc herniation, facet joint syndrome, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and SIJ dysfunction, by comparing their characteristic signs, symptoms, pain patterns, and functional limitations.
  • Analyze patient presentations to identify condition-specific etiologies, pain patterns, red flags, and functional limitations that may impact wheelchair assessment, positioning, and intervention planning.
  • Apply pathology-specific findings to clinical cases to determine differential diagnoses, appropriate physiotherapy management strategies, and indications for referral for further investigation.
