Post-Traumatic Growth: 5 Clinical Strategies to Foster Resilience and Meaning

About this live event

Trauma is often understood as an individual experience with lasting negative effects on health and wellbeing. However, trauma can be more fully understood at a multilevel interface that includes individual, family, community, societal, and ancestral dimensions. This session presents groundbreaking scientific research on the genetic, epigenetic, and neurobiological relationships between trauma and post-traumatic growth (PTG). Participants will explore how clinical interventions can alter epigenetic and neurobiological functions to promote resilience and PTG. Individual and community-based solutions for transforming trauma will be discussed, with the goal of helping providers identify strategies that enhance resilience, promote post-traumatic growth, and improve health outcomes.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe trauma and post-traumatic growth as biological phenomena, including their epigenetic and neurobiological underpinnings.
  • Explain how epigenetic and neurobiological mechanisms can be utilized to promote post-traumatic growth in clinical practice.
  • Identify at least three individual and community-based interventions that enhance resilience and support post-traumatic growth across diverse populations.
